Domestic update
After yesterdays complaint about postal service strikes and useless e-government I have to beat a hasty retreat today. Well, at least partially:
- When I came home for lunch today there was a huge pile of mail on my doormat. Most of the magazines I normally would have received on Saturday, some junk mail, a bill and three other letters:
- Yes, among the mail were two letters from Swindon Council and/or Liberata. One for the council tax single occupancy discount and one for the direct debit mandate. Looks like they did act on my e-mail, although why they didn't reply telling me that the forms are on their way is beyond me.
- The third letter gives me something to complain about again...
What am I on about now? Well, TV Licensing:
- Before I moved in the flat was probably unoccupied for quite a while. One of the first letters that arrived after I moved in was from TV Licensing to "The Present Occupier". Quite threatening, "we still don't have a record of a TV license", "your case has been referred to me", "serious consequences" and the like. Well, may be the reason you didn't get a response was that nobody was living here?
- I don't have a television. Haven't had one for the last five years or so. Have no intention to get one either. Not now and probably not for the next few years either.
- The website for TV Licensing is useless. Guess what I get when I visit it with Mozilla? In order to view this website, you need a version 4 browser or above.. WTF?
- Today I received another letter: "You are due to receive a visit from TV Licensing Officer". Well, if you must. No TV here. I could have told you, if you had let me. You could have added a form and a freepost envelope to your letters, then I would have written to you. You could have made your website accessible to me, then I could have e-mailed you. But you didn't. So send your TV Licensing Officer around. If you're lucky I might even be home.
Right, that's it. Moan over. Feeling better already.
