Blogfree Weekend
Couldn't be bothered to blog this weekend. But now it's time for some blogging again. A bunch of links, thoughts, complaints and the like below:
- The BBC has a report about "Sexing up e-government". Well, for me it would be enough if it just worked: When I moved house recently I informed Swindon Council about it to amend my council tax records (which I did the old-fashioned way by letter...). The council tax bill I received was wrong, so I thought I send an e-mail to Liberata. This is the company Swindon Council has outsourced the council tax administration to. I sent the mail on Wednesday, asking for a confirmation of receipt. I sent a reminder on Friday. I just sent another reminder. If they don't even reply to e-mails, I think "sexing up e-government" is a bit pointless...
- The Glasgow Story, a fantastic site about (who would have thought...) Glasgow. History, pictures, essays, background etc. (via BBC News Scotland Online)
- Looks like the postal strike is over for now, time to clear the backlog. I haven't receiced anything since Thursday, let's see how quick it will start to turn up. Hopefully not weeks, as it is likely to take in London. No complaints from The Cartoonist yet?
- It's quite difficult to criticise something that's not available. Interesting read about how the Bush administration is removing materials from the web in the name of national security. A smokescreen for: We don't want you to see this information.
- So the Tories would cut taxes. At some point and they don't know how much either. But they would cut taxes. Oh, and improve public services. While cutting taxes. Fantastic election strategy, may be some voters will even fall for it. As long as it's only about three Labour won't really care. Why can't we get an opposition with a credible strategy?
- Following on from the previous topic, Swindon's young conservatives wish they had a Tony Blair. Huh?
- How was that with weblogs and cats? Well, here is a link to one of the most famous kittens on the web: The Unofficial Nohands Gallery. Isn't it cute? (somehow/kind of via b3ta)
- Not sure where I found this, so I can't give the credit: How conservatives use language to dominate politics (That's conservatives as in Republicans in the US, not as in Tories in the UK). Scary reading, I hope the Tories don't pick up on it.
Will that do after the weekend break?
