My Saturday news roundup
Things I found interesting in the news today:
- Celtic go three points clear at the top of the SPL. Well, at least for today. Rangers have a home game against Killie on Sunday, so I hope Killie can pull off a surprise result.
- Higher profits for pubs by banning smoking, that's what the TUC claims. Certainly from me, as I'm very annoyed by the smoke in most pubs. And I completely disagree a with the guy from the "smokers union": I think people are already voting with their feet, only nobody notices it. They leave earlier than they would otherwise. Apart from the fact that they have hardly any choice, if you want to go to the pub it's next to impossible to find a smoke free pub.
- Hummer to be sold in Europe. Now why anyone with a sane mind would want to buy any of these monsters is beyond me, especially keeping in mind their fuel economy. But then, what do I know?
- No children please, at least not in our community. The Herald writes about a community where children are not allowed to live (although they are allowed to visit). The best comment is towards the end: "They may all be mature residents, but that doesn't protect you from problem neighbours. What if one of the old fellas has a habit of playing his stereo too loud? Removing young people isn't necessarily the route to perfect living and, anyway, who's going to do the paper-round?" That says it all.
