A Few Links
to keep you busy while I'm working on the Scotland Summer 2005 travelogue. And to celebrate the end of August. Quite a thunderstorm here in Swindon at the moment. Anyway, here are the links:
- For the boyracers among you (provided you live in or near Swindon, or drive past it): Police publish speeding pics online.
- Can't Spam. Oh really? The title is slightly misleading, it explains that e-mail marketing needs to be more specific and segmented to be successful. Well, the way I see it needs to be opt-in first, then personal. It needs to provide a real service, not a scattergun approach. I buy most of my DVDs from Sendit.com. Their weekly newsletter I usually delete unread because it's not specific enough and usually promotes the standard fare I'm not really interested in (although I have picked up the odd interesting one from it). But they also have a service allowing you to register your interest in specific movies and once released on DVD (or VHS if you prefer that format) they will send you an e-mail about it. I've ordered quite a few DVDs through this service. Oh, and before one of my regular readers asks how I watch DVDs when I don't have a TV, my laptop does a quite good job playing DVDs.
- Interesting comment on the Battle of the sexes
- May be I've missed it, but I haven't seen anything about this in the British press: Brit License Plates Get Chipped (via Bruce Schneier). As one of the commenters (DarkFire at August 23, 2005 11:31 AM) in Bruce Schneier's blog says, the state really couldn't care less about what the average citizen does, but I'm still not sure if I'm comfortable with it.
- Looking at the date this one has been sitting in my 'to blog about' folder for quite a while. I might still write about it in a separate entry: Recycling around the world. Recycling, fine. But why not avoiding it in the first place? At least the e-mail I sent here seems to have had some impact, the packaging is back to the old format.
I think that's enough links. (Yeah, get back to that travelogue! Ed.)
