Holiday Preparation

No, not gone yet, still a few days to go. But quite busy preparing for my upcoming holidays.

Yesterday I spent a lot of money at Cotswold Outdoor (their main store is a 20min drive from here) to replace and/or upgrade some of my equipment. I'll definitely be better prepared than these people and won't leave without my maps and compass. Also bought a Visor Buff after some good experiences with the Polar Buff I bought last year. Not to forget various shirt from Lowe Alpine and socks from Thorlo

So where will I go and what will I do during my holidays?

Anyone who knows me and/or reads this blog regularly can probably guess it: Scotland. I'll start with a few days in Galloway and/or Ayrshire (haven't decided the details yet, I'll decide that when I'm there). Then I'll take the ferry to the Isle of Arran, where I plan to stay several days. Walking and hiking will be the main activity, Goatfell being one of the destinations (Excellent panorama from Goatfell). Next it will be Kintyre to pick up my sister at Hometon Farm near Campbeltown where she will be horse riding while I'm on Arran.

Together with my sister the journey will continue to the Isle of Islay (my ninth visit and my sister's first). Again there will be some walking, I'm considering a repeat of the walk to Proaig, although this time I'll probably extend it to go all the way to MacArthur's Head. But there will also be opportunities to go to the beach, e.g. Machir Bay. Not to forget some good food and whisky as well as a pint in Carl Reavey's pub in Portnahaven. I also hope to introduce my sister to some of the people I've met on Islay (if any of you read this please send me a mail if you're around).

After a few days on Islay we'll continue to the Isle of Colonsay, where I plan to take her to Oronsay and to Kiloran Bay among others. Finally we will take the ferry to Oban, from where we will drive to Glasgow via Loch Fyne and Hill House in Helensburgh. That's about it.

Jealous?
