A bit of blogging

Yesterday I got home quite late and was too tired to blog. Today I could say it's way too hot to blog. But that would be a lame excuse. So it's time for a few links, thoughts and the like:

I was almost expecting this reaction: Paul comments that "Belfast is in IRELAND, Armin" in reaction to the entry mentioning Carrie. Well, yes and no. Depends on who you ask. I don't really want to be involved in this discussion, as I don't think any foreigner can really understand what is going on there. Nevertheless, if I look at a map at the moment I see two countries, the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, currently part of the UK. As long as that's the case in my eyes Belfast is in Northern Ireland. Not acknowledging the status quo doesn't help the real issue, something I'm struggling to grasp: Why are people fighting and killing each other because of their religion?
I'm told Slugger O'Toole is a good weblog on this topic, they also have an entry with more blogs. Paul also has a lot of links, not to mention his weekly blog entries.

Change of topic, a few links I found interesting today and yesterday:

• Now it will be interesting if/how this will be followed by other companies, in particular in the IT industry: Microsoft stops stock options (also in the New York Times) and issues stock instead. Actually, looks like they are already...
• Looks like the Cuillins won't be for sale for very much longer. Sounds like a wise decision to me.
• Assuming this is not based on genetics but where you live, I have chosen the right country to live in: Men in Britain live longer. Unless I move to Sweden, which would give me another two years. The Independent has more details and some bad news.
• The Independent doesn't give up, it still has a lot of questions about the Iraq war. But will they ever be answered?
• The New York Times writes about online compulsive disorder or pseudo-attention deficit disorder. Or newsjunkies and self-proclaimed multi-taskers might be less effective than they think they are.

And with that it's time to turn off the computer.
