Fast food lawsuits

It's not really news that after the tobacco industry the food industry might now be in trouble with the lawyers. A good summary in Fortune: "Is Fat the Next Tobacco?". While I agree that something needs to be done against "supersizing", I have my doubts about the comparison to smoking. While everyone should know that smoking is likely to kill you sooner rather than later you might not notice much until it's too late. But you don't suddenly turn obese from one day to the next. Everyone with half a brain must realise how and why they are gaining weight and take the appropriate steps. I find it difficult to blame the food companies for people not taking responsibility, regardless of all the advertising and other promotion by the food companies.
