Auf Deutsch Bitte!

Eigentlich ist die vierte Sprachenwoche ja schon vorbei, aber da ich vorgestern bereits etwas auf meinem Blog über die Hebrideninsel Islay zum Thema 'Heute mal Islay auf Deutsch' geschrieben habe will ich dieses Blog nicht vernachlässigen. Fragt sich nur über was ich hier auf Deutsch schreiben könnte...
Vielleicht über meine Freunde von TV Licensing? Na gut, ein paar Worte auf Deutsch über TV Licensing. In Deutschland gibt es die GEZ, so ziemlich das gleiche ist TV Licensing in Großbritannien. Allerdings mit einem kleinen aber feinen Unterschied: In Deutschland muss man (soweit ich weiss) schon Gebühren zahlen wenn man einen Fernseher nur besitzt, selbst wenn man damit nur Filme auf DVDs sieht. Man könnte ja schließlich damit Fernsehen. Hier im Vereinigten Königreich ist das etwas anders, man muss nur eine 'TV Licence' haben wenn man auch fernsieht. Wer also z.B. einen Fernseher und Videorekorder besitzt um damit nur aufgezeichnete Videos für Kurse der Open University anzusehen (und der Fernseher nicht an eine Antenne angeschlossen ist und keine Sender eingestellt hat) braucht keine Gebühren zu bezahlen.
Ich selber habe keinen Fernseher, ich habe ihn abgeschafft als ich 1998 nach Deutschland zog und mir als ich 2000 wieder nach England zog keinen wieder angeschafft. Allerdings ist das für TV Licensing schwer zu verstehen. Seit ich 2003 in meine gegenwärtige Wohnung eingezogen bin habe ich fast jeden Monat einen Brief bekommen ich sollte doch endlich mal meinen Fernseher anmelden, ich müsste einen Gerichtstermin befürchten und hohe Strafen bezahlen wenn ich nicht bald meinen Fernseher anmelden würde. Vor ein paar Wochen rief dann auf einmal jemand von TV Licensing an (keine Ahnung wo die meine Nummer her hatten), letzte Woche kam sogar jemand vorbei um nachzufragen und zu bestätigen daß ich keinen Fernseher habe. Meine Antwort war 'Nein, ich habe keinen Fernseher' und damit ist sie wieder gegangen. Mal sehen ob jetzt endlich Ruhe ist.

May be something about my friends from TV Licensing? All right then, a few words in German about TV Licensing. In Germany you have the GEZ, pretty much the same is TV Licensing in Great Britain. Albeit with a small but important difference: In Germany (as far as I know) you have to pay for just owning a TV, even if you only watch movies on DVD with it. After all you could theoretically watch television with it. Here in the UK this is different, you only need a 'TV Licence' if you are actually watching TV. If for example you only own a TV and video recorder to watch recorded materials for courses of the Open University (and the television set is not connected to an aerial and is detuned) you don't need a licence.
I don't have a television myself, I got rid of it when I moved to Germany in 1998 and didn't buy one again when I returned to England in 2000. But that seems to be difficult to understand for TV Licensing. Since I moved into my current home in 2003 I've received a letter from TV Licensing almost every month, I should buy a TV Licence, I would have to expect a court appearance and pay high penalty fees if I didn't buy a TV Licence soon. A few weeks ago suddenly someone from TV Licensing called (no idea how they got my number), last week even someone showed up to check and confirm that I really don't have a television. I told her 'no, I don't have a TV' and with that she left. Let's see if that settles it.
