Back From Islay

Picture of walkers on cliffs high above the sea, a monument visible in the distance

Let me start with the bad news: I'm back from Islay when you read this Sunday evening. It is raining quite heavily while I'm writing this on Saturday afternoon, so I'm sitting inside on the ferry instead of being outside enjoying the fresh air. I had a puncture on Friday evening, meaning I'm now driving with the spare tyre and need a new tyre. But enough of the bad news, let's move on to the good news:

I had a fantastic week on Islay during WalkIslay 2006. We had no rain to speak of during the walks and a lot of sun and pleasant temperatures. Just under 300 walks were completed by the participants. I met lots of old friends and got to know a lot of new people. We saw Seals, Frogs, Golden Eagles, Buzzards, Hen Harriers, Swallows, Guillemots and various other animals and birds. We had various wee drams of Islay single malts (Laphroaig, Bruichladdich, Bowmore and Bunnahabhain among them) at several opportunities (summits, visitor welcome evenings, beaches and returns from walks among them). I participated in seven walks, covering approx 60 miles during the weeks, mostly over rough ground with only a few tracks and roads required. We had a very nice visitor evening with traditional music and an interesting wildlife talk. And much much more...

The first pages should go up soon, you should be able to read (and see) more at the WalkIslay 2006 travelogue by the end of the week.
