Birthday Party

Picture of walkers standing on a cliff in the evening sun

Can there be a better a way to celebrate a birthday? I don't think so. In case you didn't know, my birthday was on Friday. And as regular readers will know I spent it on Islay, participating in this years WalkIslay walking week.

After a rainy start on Sunday and Monday we had fantastic weather for the rest of the week, I left a sunny Scotland this morning to return to a cloudy Swindon. The walks were great, pictures should start appearing here soon. Thanks to all the walk leaders and Ian Brooke for bringing it all together! Not to forget everyone at the Port Charlotte Hotel for the nice stay as well as all the other walkers who made the walks so enjoyable. I met a lot of old friends and got the know quite a few new ones.

But back to the birthday: It all started on Thursday evening and into Friday with a few Islay ales and some Laphroaig. After some sleep it continued with a slight hangover, which was quickly blown away during a walk from Kilchoman to Kilchiaran and back (including great views over Machir Bay). After a short break in the afternoon another walk followed in the evening near Portnahaven, the picture above is near Claddach looking north towards Lossit Bay. Followed by a few more beers at the pub in Portnahaven before finishing the day at the bar of the Port Charlotte Hotel. One of the best birthdays I've had. Ever.

Now it's time to return to the grim realities of work and catching up on what else happened in the world. But they won't take away the excellent memories from a great week. More to come...
