Frohes Neues Jahr

Frohes Neues Jahr, Happy New Year, Happy Hogmanay wherever you are! I hope your hangover isn't too bad, allegedly this should help. Not sure if you can get it outside of the UK and in particular Scotland though. I won't need it this morning, as I had a quiet evening and new year. Time to look forward, what will the new year bring for me?

General

Some interesting new challenges at work, since I usually don't write about work here that's as much as I'm going to say. But I'll stay in Swindon for the foreseeable future, no intention whatsoever to return to Germany (just to answer the question I sometimes get from friends and relatives in Germany). Provided my landlord doesn't change his mind I won't move house either. With all the hype in a lot of blogs about Getting things done I might give the book a try. I also hope to learn some more Scots this year.

Travel & Walking

The WalkIslay walking week on Islay is coming up in April. The final program should be out soon, I'll post updates here. During the summer another visit to Islay is due. Also on the list is Sandwood Bay, probably combined with a walk out to Cape Wrath. While I'm in the area I'll probably tackle one or the other of Suilven, Stac Pollaidh, Quinag, Conival and Ben More Assynt and if I get that far Ben Hope. In September or October my sister is planning to go horse trekking in Wales, as I'm probably going to provide shuttle services a good excuse for two excursions to Wales. And in December I'll most likely make another excursion to the Arrochar Alps. Not to forget hopefully some more walking in Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire (in other words: around Swindon) over the weekends.

Listening & Reading

My musical tastes are unlikely to change from last year, so it's probably more of the same (or at least similar). A few books on my reading list for 2005 (in no particular order):

If Ian Rankin publishes another Inspector Rebus book I'll read that as well. Also Bruce Schneier seems to be working on a new book.

On the web

No change really. I plan to continue this blog as well as my travelogue, Isle of Islay and Charles Rennie Mackintosh site, not to forget maintaining all the websites I run. My blogroll will continue to evolve, certainly adding blogs, possibly removing some should they stop or get boring. And my spam filter will continue to have to work hard I fear.

Tools & Gadgets

As I only bought my camera three months ago there won't be any change there. My laptop is less than 1.5 years old and I'm still very happy with it. Should my stereo pack in, then I'll quite likely replace it with the Legato DAB/FM/CD micro system. And I might buy the Tempus-1 for my bedroom.

That's enough plans for 2005, apart from continuing to enjoy life and the odd whisky.
