War on this, that and the other
Jeff Jarvis thinks "Diligence. Furor. Strength. We must wipe them out." is the solution. After some googling I'm not so sure. We have:
- War on Terrorism, also known as War on Terror
- War on Drugs and more War on Drugs
- War on Fat, sometimes also known as War on Waists
- War on Poverty and/or War on Want
- War on Pornography
- The War on Spam
- War on Crime and even more War on Crime
- War on Guns and another War on Guns
- War on Malaria
- War on Cancer
- and probably a few more "wars"
To my knowledge none of them is even close to "victory" (whatever that is, but that is another question). May be all these wars are not the solution we are craving? I don't have the solution, but war doesn't seem to be the right one.
